Why Atlanta Businesses Choose Threat Resistant Security Glass

Threat resistant security glass protects the openings that face the most exposure — entrances, lobbies, service counters, and ground-level windows. At MG Glass, we install security glazing for corporate offices, medical facilities, multi-tenant lobbies, retail storefronts, and any building where public-facing openings need stronger protection. We review your openings and recommend glazing that fits your daily operations and security needs.

How Threat Resistant Security Glass Works

Threat resistant glazing uses glass layers bonded together so the panel holds after impact. Standard safety glass may crack and fall out of the frame — reinforced glazing stays in place and slows forced entry. The protection depends on the full assembly, not just the glass. A strong panel in a weak frame won't perform. The system buys time. It slows break-in attempts and gives your staff and security time to respond.

Security Goals for Threat Resistant Glazing

The first goal is resisting forced entry at doors, sidelites, and ground-level windows. We check your building and flag openings that need stronger protection. The second is impact resistance at high-traffic points — service windows and reception counters that may face repeated strikes or pressure. Laminated layers help the opening hold together under stress. Some buildings also need ballistic rated glass. If your project calls for that level of protection, we discuss rated systems.

Threat Resistant Security Glass Construction and Components

Most threat resistant glazing uses laminated glass — multiple layers bonded with tough inner layers that hold fragments in place after impact. We select the right thickness based on opening size and security goals. The frame matters just as much. Strong frames, anchors, and channels hold the laminated glass in place. If your current frame can't support the upgrade, we recommend a frame built for the new glass. The full assembly adds protection while still letting in natural light.

Planning Your Threat Resistant Security Glass Project

Most projects happen in occupied buildings, so we coordinate access and staging so your staff and visitors move through safely during the work. We review how people move through entries and lobbies and position panels so reception staff maintain clear sightlines to entry doors and waiting areas. Some projects also call for coatings that reduce glare or improve comfort while keeping the view clear.

Codes, Testing Standards, and Security Glass Ratings

Threat resistant glazing is tested to verify how the glass and frame respond to repeated impact, forced entry, or ballistic threats. Your architect or security consultant may specify a rating level based on the building's risk profile. We select glazing that meets those requirements and install it according to the tested specifications.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of buildings use threat resistant glazing?

Schools, corporate offices, medical facilities, retail stores, and government buildings are the most common. Any building with public-facing openings and a need for stronger protection can benefit.

Does threat resistant glazing block natural light?

No. Laminated security glass stays clear and lets light pass through. The panels look similar to standard glass but perform much better under impact.

How long does threat resistant security glass installation take?

Most projects finish in one to two days once panels are ready. Planning, measuring, and ordering take one to two weeks before install begins.

Can you upgrade existing windows to threat resistant glazing without replacing the frame?

In many cases, yes. We check your frame during the site visit. If the frame is structurally sound, we can install the new glazing into the existing opening.

What Other People Are Saying

Saved Us a Fortune

I can't justly describe the amount of money this team saved us on updating the 43 windows in our home. The team was first class from their survey to their installation process and production timelines. Other firms didn't get it right. Finally, they really stand by their work!

Excellent Customer Service

Update 10/1/2022 I've changed my rating to 5 stars. Last month MG Glass reached out to advise they received in the square hinges and asked if I wanted to swap out. Why of course!!! This is excellent customer service - own it and make it right! Love how my glass shower door. So many compliments. I've added a new pic of the square hinges. So far so good! Love the way my frameless shower door looks. The reason for the 4 star and not 5 star, my hardware doesn't match the style. The handle and clips are square but the hinges are curved.
