FAQ: Residential Glass Services

Do you have questions before starting a glass project at home? Many Atlanta homeowners contact us with similar questions about shower doors, custom mirrors, window glass, and glass railings. At MG Glass, we discuss these topics every day with homeowners planning upgrades. This FAQ explains how residential glass projects move from planning to installation so you understand what to expect.

What types of residential glass services do you provide?

At MG Glass, we work with homeowners across Atlanta on many types of residential glass projects. You may contact us for frameless shower doors, glass shower enclosures, custom mirrors, glass railings, or replacement glass for damaged windows and doors. Every project begins with a review of your space and careful measurements of the opening where the glass will be installed.

Some homeowners plan a bathroom renovation and want a frameless shower door. Others want a large mirror for a home gym, entryway, or dressing area. We often cut custom glass for shelves, tabletops, cabinet inserts, or decorative panels that match the exact dimensions of your space.

Your installation may require tempered safety glass, laminated safety glass, or insulated glass units for window systems. During our consultation, we explain how each glass type works so you can choose the option that fits your home.

How can you tell if glass needs repair or replacement?

Glass problems appear in different ways depending on the type of installation in your home. Sometimes a repair solves the issue. Loose hardware, worn rollers, or minor alignment problems on a shower door often require simple adjustments.

Other situations call for glass replacement. Cracks that spread across a panel affect safety and require new glass. Fog trapped between window panes signals a failed insulated glass unit that must be replaced.

You might notice a shower door drifting out of alignment or seals that no longer keep water inside the enclosure. Mirrors can develop chipped edges or dark spots when the reflective backing begins to deteriorate. When you schedule a short site visit, we examine the installation and explain the most practical solution for your situation.

What does the measuring and quote process look like?

Your project often begins with a phone call or online message describing the glass work you want to complete. You can send photos of the opening, surrounding walls, and nearby fixtures so we understand the layout of your space.

Next, we schedule a measurement visit at your home. During this visit, we record exact dimensions and review the structure that will support the glass installation. Tile surfaces, wall framing, and mounting locations all influence how the glass panels will be fabricated.

After measurements are complete, we prepare a detailed quote. The estimate outlines materials, hardware, fabrication, and installation so you clearly understand what your project includes.

What glass and hardware options are available for shower doors?

The type of glass you choose changes how your shower enclosure looks and functions. Clear glass remains popular for bright bathrooms and open sightlines. Low iron glass removes the green tint found in standard glass and pairs well with light colored tile.

You may prefer frosted or textured glass for added privacy. Patterned glass designs can introduce visual detail while keeping the space open and bright.

Hardware systems control how the shower door operates each day. Hinged doors swing outward from wall mounted hinges. Pivot doors rotate on top and bottom pivot points. Sliding shower doors move along a track system that works well in smaller bathrooms.

During the design discussion, we review handle styles, hinge finishes, and mounting positions so your enclosure works smoothly after installation.

How long does a typical residential glass project take?

Project timelines vary depending on the complexity of the installation and the type of glass required. A simple replacement panel for a window or door may move forward quickly once measurements are confirmed.

Custom glass systems usually take more time because every panel must match the exact dimensions of your opening. Frameless shower doors require careful measurement and precise fabrication so the panels align correctly once installed.

Preparation inside your home affects the schedule. Tile installation, finished flooring, and completed wall surfaces should be in place before we field measure shower glass or large mirrors. After fabrication is complete, we return to your home and install the glass panels and hardware.

How should you care for shower glass, mirrors, and railings?

Routine cleaning keeps residential glass looking clear and bright. Many homeowners use a squeegee after each shower to remove water droplets that can leave mineral spots on glass surfaces. A soft cloth with a mild cleaner works well for regular cleaning.

Mirrors benefit from gentle wiping with a soft cloth so the reflective backing stays protected. Harsh or abrasive cleaners can scratch the glass or damage the mirror edges.

Glass railings usually need only occasional cleaning to remove fingerprints and dust. Periodic hardware checks help keep moving parts working properly. If you notice a loose handle or a hinge shifting out of position, our team can adjust the hardware so your system continues to operate smoothly.

Saved Us a Fortune

I can't justly describe the amount of money this team saved us on updating the 43 windows in our home. The team was first class from their survey to their installation process and production timelines. Other firms didn't get it right. Finally, they really stand by their work!

Excellent Customer Service

Update 10/1/2022 I've changed my rating to 5 stars. Last month MG Glass reached out to advise they received in the square hinges and asked if I wanted to swap out. Why of course!!! This is excellent customer service - own it and make it right! Love how my glass shower door. So many compliments. I've added a new pic of the square hinges. So far so good! Love the way my frameless shower door looks. The reason for the 4 star and not 5 star, my hardware doesn't match the style. The handle and clips are square but the hinges are curved.
