Why Choose Custom Frameless Shower Doors for Decatur Homes?

The 1910 to 1940 Craftsman and Colonial Revival homes in Oakhurst and Winnona Park, including the Leila Ross Wilburn-era bungalows, almost never have square bathroom openings, which is exactly why a templated frameless enclosure outperforms a stock kit. We measure every wall, threshold, and curb on site, then fabricate tempered safety glass to the actual room rather than to a nominal size. Frameless construction removes the bulky metal framing that traps water and mildew, lets natural light pass through the bathroom, and puts your custom tile work on display rather than hiding it behind hardware. Hinges, clips, and U-channels are spec'd to match the glass thickness and the wall substrate behind the tile, with blocking added when needed. Learn More

Glass Railings and Modern Safety Systems

Decatur's multi-story historic homes with renovated rear additions and the luxury porches around Lenox Place are prime candidates for glass railing systems that preserve sightlines without breaking the architectural character of the original house. We install both base-shoe and standoff-mounted glass panels, choosing the system based on what the deck framing, masonry, or addition substructure can carry. Every install meets DeKalb County building code for residential railing height and load, the same standard used on our Chamblee and Brookhaven projects. The on-site measure evaluates the structure first, then we recommend the mounting type that will hold the spec and read clean against the home. Learn More

Fogged Window Repair & Energy-Efficient IGU Replacement

Many pre-WWII Decatur homes received their first double-pane retrofits during the 1980s and 1990s renovation wave, which means those seals are now reaching end-of-life right as Georgia's humidity and temperature swings wear them down fastest. When the seal fails, moisture enters the airspace between the panes and you lose both clarity and insulating value. In most cases we replace only the insulated glass unit itself, not the full window frame, which keeps the original sash or aluminum profile intact and saves you the cost of a full window replacement. We use polymer seals rated for high-humidity Southeast climates so the next round of glass holds up to Decatur summers. Learn More

Commercial Storefronts and Herculite Doors

The Decatur Square retail and dining corridor, the East Ponce de Leon Avenue commercial strip, and the Agnes Scott-area shops and restaurants all run on storefronts that handle heavy foot traffic, weather exposure, and a constant need for clear sightlines into the space. We install aluminum-framed storefront systems with tempered glass and thermal breaks for buildings that need a code-compliant envelope, and Herculite all-glass entrances where the design calls for a premium minimalist look with no visible framing around the door. Every job is templated on site, fabricated to fit the rough opening, and installed by our own crew rather than subcontracted out. Learn More on Storefronts · Learn More on Herculite

Custom Mirrors and Architectural Glass for Interiors

The mixed-use commercial buildings around Decatur Square and the office corridors east toward Emory drive most of our custom mirror work, from full-wall fitness studio mirrors templated for column offsets to decorative restaurant features and corporate office vanity mirrors with polished or beveled edges. We cut every mirror to the exact opening, ship it with the edgework specified by the designer, and install with proper substrate mounting so the glass sits flat across the entire panel with no waviness. Residential luxury bathrooms still come through our shop too, but the bulk of Decatur mirror demand sits on the commercial side. Learn More

Custom Glass Wine Cellars & Specialty Decorative Glazing

The renovated Lenox Place homes and the Decatur Square-adjacent historic properties are increasingly turning unused attics, basements, and dining-room nooks into glass-fronted wine display rooms. The glass needs to be insulated to hold a stable temperature and humidity envelope around the bottles, with seals that handle the differential between the cooled cellar and the conditioned house. We design and install the full enclosure, from the glazed wall and door assembly to integrated lighting cutouts and any decorative or etched glass elements the homeowner wants in the design. Emergency Glass Repair & Threat-Resistant Solutions in Vinings

Decatur Square businesses and East Ponce de Leon storefronts need a fast response after storm damage, attempted break-ins, or vandalism, both to secure the property and to keep the business operating. We provide same-day or next-day board-up service to seal the opening immediately, then template and fabricate the replacement glass on a separate timeline so the permanent repair matches the original spec. For higher-risk properties we also install threat-resistant laminated glazing that holds the glass together under impact, slowing forced entry and reducing injury from broken glass. Learn More

Frequently Asked Questions

Do older Craftsman and Colonial Revival homes in Oakhurst and Winnona Park have enough wall support for frameless shower enclosures?

Yes. We evaluate existing wall framing during the on-site measure and add blocking if needed before fabrication. Most pre-1940s Decatur homes with original tile bathrooms support frameless enclosures with light wall prep. Our installers carry blocking material on every shower job to handle minor framing gaps without delaying the install.

Does MG Glass handle DeKalb County commercial glass permits for Decatur Square businesses?

No. We do not handle any permitting. It is not necessary to do so.

Does Georgia's humidity affect frameless shower seals or insulated glass units in pre-WWII Decatur homes?

Yes. Georgia's humidity and temperature swings wear seals down over time on both shower-door sweeps and double-pane windows, and pre-WWII Decatur homes that received double-pane retrofits in the 1980s and 1990s are now reaching seal end-of-life on those original IGUs. We use polymer seals rated for high-humidity climates on showers and replace IGU seals when fog develops in a window airspace, restoring clarity and insulation value.

Can you install glass railings that meet DeKalb County code along Decatur's older multi-story homes and renovated additions?

Yes. We install base-shoe and standoff-mount glass railing systems that meet DeKalb County residential code for railing height and load. The on-site measure evaluates the deck or addition structure before we recommend mounting type, so the system we spec actually holds to the home you have rather than to an ideal drawing.

Do you provide emergency glass repair for storefronts in the Decatur Square or East Ponce de Leon corridor after storm damage?

Yes. We provide same-day or next-day board-up for damaged storefronts across Decatur Square, East Ponce de Leon, and Agnes Scott-area commercial blocks. Replacement panels are templated and fabricated separately, so the business stays secure right away while the permanent glass is built to the original opening spec.

Great Communication and Pricing

Great communication, pricing and installation. Friendly and helpful guys were able to replace a custom build window. Thank you!

Saved Us a Fortune

I can't justly describe the amount of money this team saved us on updating the 43 windows in our home. The team was first class from their survey to their installation process and production timelines. Other firms didn't get it right. Finally, they really stand by their work!

Excellent Customer Service

Update 10/1/2022 I've changed my rating to 5 stars. Last month MG Glass reached out to advise they received in the square hinges and asked if I wanted to swap out. Why of course!!! This is excellent customer service - own it and make it right! Love how my glass shower door. So many compliments. I've added a new pic of the square hinges. So far so good! Love the way my frameless shower door looks. The reason for the 4 star and not 5 star, my hardware doesn't match the style. The handle and clips are square but the hinges are curved.
